Postdoctoral Position: Molecular Mechanics of the Cardiovascular System

The postdoctoral scientist will lead a new interdisciplinary project to develop animal models to examine the role of mechanical forces in the heart.

They are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join the group of Molecular Mechanics of the Cardiovascular System led by Jorge Alegre-Cebollada at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid, Spain. Our lab studies the role of mechanical forces in the physiology of the heart in health and disease, by combining the latest single-molecule manipulation techniques by Atomic Force Microscopy, and protein biochemistry techniques such as mass spectrometry.

The postdoctoral scientist will lead a new interdisciplinary project to develop animal models to examine the role of mechanical forces in the heart. Our laboratory is very well positioned internationally to develop this novel line of research, which can become the basis of an independent career.

CNIC is the leading cardiovascular research institute in Spain. CNIC has top-notch animal facilities and extensive experience in the generation of animal models. CNIC offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits and training programs. For more information, visit www.cnic.es/en/cnic/index.php.
We are seeking passionate scientists holding a PhD in Biology, Veterinary Sciences or similar with extensive experience working with animal models, and who show interest in interdisciplinary science.

Optimal profile and skills include:

  • Creativity, critical thinking and willingness to lead high risk/high gain projects
  • Experience in generation of genetically modified animal models
  • Publications in leading international journals as main author
  • Competitive profile for application to funding programs such as Marie Curie (European Commission), Juan de la Cierva and Ramón y Cajal (Spanish Goverment), Atracción de Talento (Regional Government of Madrid), etc.
  • Experience in the cardiovascular and/or musculoskeletal systems
  • Experience in techniques based on light or electron microscopy, biophysics, muscle mechanics, and/or protein and nucleic acids biochemistry.

For more information about our group, including current research projects and philosophy of work, please visit www.cnic.es/en/investigacion/molecular-mechanics-cardiovascular-system

If you think you could be a good fit, send a cover letter, a CV and the e-mail address of 3 potential references as a SINGLE PDF FILE to jalegre_arroba_cnic.es.
